We just put apple airtags on our dogs’ collars last week….

We were able to tell it to ignore “being left behind” at multiple locations, including our own home, our boarding kennel, etc.

No annoying issues in the first week and it’s accurately reporting the dogs’ location at home, as we go on walks, etc.

We bought the tags directly from Apple because they will engrave something on them for free. But we bought the AirTag holders from Amazon.
